Text Connector

The Text Connector tool empowers you to personalize content for each user, catering specifically to their unique data. Whether you're incorporating a name, a numerical value, or adapting the entire script of a video, this tool ensures precision, personalization, and optimal outcomes.

Getting started

1

Select a layer

Start by selecting one or multiple layers within After Effects.

2

Select data type

Choose the type of data you want to modify:

Data Type
Description

Data

Personalize content based on individual user data, such as their profile picture or company logo.

Edit

Easily replace the existing asset with a new one.

Expression

Craft custom code to tailor the content precisely to your needs. For instance, you can use custom code to determine when specific sounds should play, like providing feedback for a trivia quiz.

Data

Upon selecting 'Data', a dropdown menu will appear. It will present available data fields. Once selected, you will instantly observe modifications in the preview window.

Value

Should you opt for 'Edit', the preview will remain unchanged. Within a mini window, you'll find the content drawn directly from the layer. This facility is especially handy for swift text modifications. And there's more! You can connect specific words within the text to data. It's quite the game-changer!

To achieve this, use the following format: ${desired data}.

For example, to display "Hey Alex!":

  1. Open your schema and establish a 'Data' data field for the name, labeling it "name."

  2. Since our data doesn’t inherently say “Hey”, we format it as:

    Hey ${name}!

For a more complex input, like:

“My friend ${name}! loves ${favoritePet}!! He owns ${numberOfPets}! Of them.”

The output will be: “My friend John loves dogs! He owns 6 of them!”

Expression

For those advanced needs, the 'Expression' feature enables you to write custom code.

3

Set font-size breakpoint

Once you’ve linked everything, there's an option to set a breakpoint. This adjusts the font size if the letter count exceeds the predetermined limit in the connector, ensuring your design remains sharp and tidy.

We recommend conducting a test using an edge case before finalizing your publication. For instance, when testing names, we utilize "Alexandra" as a benchmark.

*notice that you can provide a default value, in case the data is missing.

ohh! and don’t forget to save your work!

4

Text Formatting Options

You have the flexibility to format text according to your preferences. Whether you need to emphasize a message, create a polished title, or maintain consistent styling, we offer four text formatting options to suit your needs.

All Caps: This option transforms all text into uppercase letters, making every character appear in its capitalized form.

BEFORE: lorem ipsum dolor
AFTER: LOREM IPSUM DOLOR

All Lowercase: Choosing this option converts all text to lowercase letters, ensuring that every character is displayed in its smaller form.

BEFORE: Lorem Ipsum Dolor
AFTER: lorem ipsum dolor

Title Case: Title Case capitalizes the first letter of each word in the text, similar to how titles, headings, or book titles are conventionally formatted.

BEFORE: welcome to our knowledge base
AFTER: Welcome to Our Knowledge Base

Sentence Case: With Sentence Case, only the first letter of the first word in each sentence is capitalized, while the rest of the text remains in lowercase.
